Calendar 2026: Quad Calendar 2026: Quad では穴の補修技法の一つであるダーニングを主要テクニックとして採用しました。穴の周りの生地の構造を織り機のように捉え、覆い被せるよう”生地を織る”ことにより補修する技法です。 過去の少女たちによるサンプラーには様々な想定を元にダーニングの練習をしたものが見られます。なかでも Calendar 2026: Quad ではダメージの形や場所の特性に合わせたダーニングに着目をしました。カレンダーのデザイン上で自然に生まれるタイポグラフィの隙間を”穴”と見立て、それらを埋めるようにダーニングを施しました。また生地の端部分にも３つの異なる状況の想定のダーニングの練習をしました。 440 x 530 mm (180 x 220 mm 折りたたみの状態) オフセット4色印刷 (蛍光ブルー、蛍光イエロー、マゼンタ、ブラック) 555 部 一部 3850円（税込） コンセプトと刺繍＿ 香本正樹 グラフィックデザイン＿ 佐藤友莉 写真＿ 西堀綾子 英語文編集＿ Ben Tupper 印刷＿ RaddraaierSSP (アムステルダム、オランダ) Calendar 2026: Quad explores darning, a textile repair technique where the surrounding area of damaged fabric is used as a loom to weave over. Historically, darning was taught to students as a means to mend the cloth of various domestic items. Students would darn both practical and decorative patterns over the damaged sections of fabric, imitating different designs depending on their skill level. Such functional and ornamental darning patterns are utilised in Calendar 2026: Quad to produce the shapes that constitute its design. The calendar takes its title from the word quad, a term that was historically given to a metal spacer used in letterpress typesetting and would later go on to refer to the spaces found in between type. Calendar 2026: Quad treats these spaces, along with areas around the edge of the ground fabric, as ‘holes’ or ‘damaged’ areas to darn. The embroidery has been photographed and offset printed with fluorescent blue, magenta, fluorescent yellow and black ink to a 1:1 scale. Each calendar is hand numbered and comes pre-folded in an envelope. Cross stitched entirely by hand , the embroiedered calendar's composition references the thread pattern of plain weave, a simple and common where warp and weft threads intersect at right angles forming a criss-cross pattern. The plaid composition of the calendar similarly alludes to this criss-cross pattern, using 7 colours to create different blocks of colour expressions for each calendar month. The typography used takes influence from typefaces typically featured in traditional samplers, with each letter's width being modified to fit the plaid pattern grid. The embroidery has then been photographed and offset printed to a 1:1 scale in full colour. Each calendar comes pre-folded in a hand numbered envelop. Calendar 2024 : Plaid can be used as a decorative print or as a functional calendar.
